”Glass and Ceramics for Arts” aims to be a multidisciplinary research and
development centre for the study of glass and ceramics. Its main objective is
to join specialists in art, science, technology, history and conservation of
glass and ceramics. This project, proposing a pioneer encounter of know-how in
so different areas as science and arts, would be of interest to artists and
scientists throughout the world.
This Glass Center as
well as facilities of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, of the Nuclear and
Technological Institute and of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University
of Lisbon are used in the following activities:

MISSION STATEMENT OF THE GLASS CENTER in
2001
The Center
will establish and sustain an innovative educational programme
at the
University of Lisbon, the Master of Fine Arts in Glass.
The program will be of interest to glass artists throughout the world
and will pioneer the curricular integration of the art, technology and
history
of glass.
It will be pursued
with sufficient intellectual rigor and vitality that
reflects credit
upon the faculty, administration and students of the University
of Lisbon.
Graduates of the program will be recognized as having received
a superior
education that supports their emergence as outstanding artists
who have
chosen the material glass as a medium for artistic expression.
The
combined effects of these activities will raise the awareness of the
importance
of glass in art, industry, design, architecture and other
contemporary
areas.
It will support
the glass industry of Portugal and favour tourism.
